Work for Impact

Priority Outcomes

We focus on outcomes we know will have the greatest impact for children long-term in Lane County — ensuring that their families are healthy and stable, that children enter kindergarten ready to learn, that elementary students can read proficiently by third grade, and that youth have the knowledge and skills to graduate on time and pursue their dreams after graduation.

Healthy & Stable Families

Providing tools that end the cycle of poverty so all kids have a home and nutritious food every day.

When kids don’t have a safe, healthy, stable home, it is often difficult for them to succeed in school, which can negatively impact their future. It’s important to make sure families have the tools to end the cycle of financial instability so kids don’t have to worry about where they’re going to sleep at night or if they will have nutritious food to eat every day. We believe that if we can help families become more financially stable, we can help kids succeed and end the cycle of generational poverty.

Kindergarten Readiness

Ensuring that kids have the early math, literacy, and social skills for a successful start.

The first five years are critical brain-building years that shape children’s futures. Giving kids a strong early start helps set them on a path toward success in school and life.

When we invest in high-quality parenting education and preschool programming, and increase children’s access to books, we increase the likelihood that they enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed.

Elementary School Success

Helping students reach essential reading benchmarks by third grade, when they stop learning to read and begin reading to learn

When a student enters third grade, they need to be prepared for a transition that will change their future: the moment when they stop learning to read and start reading to learn. In our community, too many kids don’t have the reading skills they need to reach this crucial milestone, which can have a lasting effect on their ability to close the achievement gap and thrive in school.

Youth Knowledge, Skills, & Credentials

Providing youth with the knowledge, skills, and support necessary to reach their potential and pursue their dreams.

While the pathway to success may look different for many students, we know that all kids need the skills, confidence, and encouragement to find their place in the world after high school. Supporting programs and initiatives that foster positive youth development, mentorship, and career development is essential to making sure all kids succeed in life. We have a vision where all youth enter adult life with hope, purpose, and all the tools they need to pursue their dreams; we see our community’s future in them, and we believe that future looks bright.
