The United Way of Lane County Community Investment Initiative seeks to create opportunities for a better life for all by investing in programs that have a meaningful impact on residents of Lane County.

At United Way, when we think about how families succeed and thrive – we know it’s not just about what happens inside the walls of the home. It’s what happens in the libraries & schools, childcare centers & community centers, doctor’s offices, financial institutions and workplaces.

United Way isn’t about short-term charity, it’s about lasting change. We look at the big picture: what resources are lacking – most importantly food, shelter, health and safety – and how we can create opportunities for a better life for all. We see the importance of supporting kids as they enter school and understand early success has a ripple effect that creates long-term healthy economies.

United Way investments stem from individual and corporate contributions to the LIVE UNITED fund. Community members are given an opportunity to donate to the fund through workplace campaigns, individual gifts, and fundraising events. This fund was developed with the philosophy that it is supported by the community, for the community. Therefore, grants awards are determined by volunteer panels made up of donors, content experts and community volunteers. United Way typically awards between 50-75 grants to agencies that all provide vital and necessary services to residents of Lane County.
