The Alton F. Baker Award is United Way of Lane County’s most prestigious acknowledgement. Named after the founder of The Register-Guard and the local Community Chest (which became United Way of Lane County), the Alton F. Baker Award acknowledges one individual who demonstrates exemplary leadership, philanthropy, and community involvement.
Johan Mehlum, founder and president of Siuslaw Bank, represents all the above ideals and more. His company is deeply engaged in all aspects of life in the communities where branches are located. Employees are urged to get involved and to volunteer for worthy causes. Mr. Mehlum’s generous and constant philanthropy has set an example for other businesses on how to truly be a community citizen.
