First Opportunity Conference in Lane County a big success

"They will understand that they're not the cause of poverty."  That's the message behind Saturday's Opportunity Conference hosted by the United Way of Lane County. The keynote speaker, Dr. Donna Beegle, knows what she's talking about- she went from virtually nothing to earning a doctorate degree in just ten years.

FamilyWize program has saved Lane County residents over $100K so far

A segment on Jefferson Public Radio (KRVM-AM 1280) on a recent morning featured a program that gives people who either have no prescription drug coverage or not very good coverage a chance to purchase medications at local pharmacies often at substantial discounts.

United Way holds Opportunity Conference this Saturday

On Saturday, May 8, an innovative and powerful new poverty-reduction event is being held by United Way of Lane County called the Opportunity Conference. Attendees will be individuals and families currently living in poverty who are determined to end the cycle in their lives now. They will learn strategies for moving out of poverty such as sharing skills and strengths to support each other, how to build a network of people who are not in poverty, and how to connect to resources and opportunities.
